Youth Sunday: “Marked by LOVE!”

April 24, 2016 was Youth Sunday at St. Matthew’s, where the youth led all aspects of the service, including helping to give the sermon, being readers, ushers, Eucharistic Ministers, musicians, choir members, and greeters.  Because the sermon was about how we are no longer marked as believers by the Old Testament Law, but instead we are known as Jesus’s disciples by our love, the youth gave parishioners reminders that they are “marked by love” by painting crosses (the ultimate sign of love) on parishioners’ foreheads.  These vibrant crosses served as an outward and visible sign that we are marked by love, a reminder that we are to be known to a broken and hurting world, by how well we LOVE those around us!

Preschool Annual Silent Auction

preschool logo

April 20th-April 29th in the Education Wing.

Our annual Silent Auction is coming up on April 20th. We are hoping to raise $5,000 for the Preschool and Kindergarten. Money raised will be used

to provide scholarships to needy families, to purchase materials and curriculum for the classrooms, and to upgrade school technology. Fundraising is vital to our program; with your help we know it can be our most successful Silent Auction yet.

During this time of year, we ask of families who own a business or know of someone who owns a business if they would be willing to donate products or services to the Silent Auction. All businesses who participate will be able to send flyers home to Preschool families advertising your business.

We are hoping we can count on your support of our Silent Auction this year. Your donation is tax deductible (EIN # 58-1741175). Any prizes, gift certificates, tickets or merchandise may be sent directly to the preschool to be received by April 15th. If there is an expiration date on your donation, please take into consideration that prizes will not be claimed until at least April 24th. We would like to thank you in advance for your support!  You may also contact Jennifer at 770-978-1323 or stmattspreschool@bellsouth.net to have it picked up.

Renew, Refresh, Rejoice!

20160329_111339_HDRRENEW, REFRESH AND REJOICE!

Renew the Mind
Refresh the Body

Rejoice in the Spirit of the Lord

As the season of Easter arrives we are reminded of the Lord’s crucifixion for our sins and his resurrection so that we might have everlasting life. God has given us hope for new life and it is reflected all around us in the season of spring. We have a multi-sensory awareness of renewal and rebirth in the greening of our barren landscapes, the growth of foliage, the blossoming of fragrant flowers and the return of birds and yes, even our pesky insects. God is clearly showing us that this is a special time for renewal in the cycle of life.

Take some time to reflect on what this season means to you and then take some definitive steps to renew your mind, body and spirit:

1. Make a conscious decision to renew and improve your relationship with God, your family and friends. Pray, study the Word of God and make a personal plan for yourself.
2. Show God’s love not only to family and friends but also to your neighbor and those you do not know. Help those who are in need and do acts of kindness to all. When we help to refresh others, we are refreshing ourselves.

3. Refresh and have respect for your body, which was created in God’s image. Commit yourself to a healthy lifestyle by eating nutritious food, getting daily physical exercise and mental stimulation. Eliminate excess in all areas and strive for balance.

Rejoice and be glad! God has given us another opportunity for new life.

Flora D. Cox, M.D.
