Over 150 names of loved ones were read aloud and a bell was rung for each name at a service at St. Matthew’s on Sunday, November 1 to commemorate All Saints’ Day. Those attending added flowers or placed candles or other meaningful items beneath a cross in the sanctuary, and some lit candles in the Coil Chapel, reserved as a place of solitude and quiet. The labyrinth was set up in the parish hall for those desiring to walk in prayer and meditation. Quiet music was offered at the service and in the parish hall. Mother Liz Hendrick, Rector, and Sally Ulrey, Youth Minister, were available for those wishing to talk.
The Evening of Remembrance is offered annually on All Saints’ Sunday. Names to be read are collected in the weeks leading up to the event. All are welcome.
