A music school for private lessons has been established in Daniel Thomas Mitchell’s name. It is a renovated house at 3036 Memorial Dr., Atlanta and was dedicated in memory of Daniel on May 19. Students are now being accepted, and one of Daniel’s colleagues was the first to start piano lessons. The mission to the community is to offer music lessons to anyone willing to learn.
A grand piano became available as a local estate was settled. The family wanted a special place for the piano. After the tragedy last year, Dan traveled to Seattle and attended a concert of the Seattle Symphony. Later in the summer, when meeting the owner of the piano, he was introduced to the young son who is a bass player in the Seattle Symphony and had come down to help his grieving mother.
Having learned of the connections we have experienced, the family wanted the piano to be part of the tribute to Daniel.
